Thank you so much. The higher ups love us; even when we screw it up. So, I think the problem of being allowed to place our stands in new buildings will go away. I think part of the problem is we have some less than reputable publications on campus, and they like to use our stands. Thats another issue I am working on as well.

I would ls ike some really sleek looking custom designed stands. But, I think that's a dream. Our relationship with the local paper is excellent. They are our printer, so they have to deal with us regularly. They could get us some stands, but they would be closed with a door, and I dont think people would open it pull the parper out- cuz people dont with their stands on campus.
I'll talk to them though to see what ideas they've got.
Thanks- This site is really great. I've used it several times to get advise and you all have been very helpful. :)

Other ideas include looking for other than "official newsstands" that will work. There may be things at Target or another store nearby that are not made to be newsstands, but will look fine and serve the purpose.

Otherwise, like Kelsey said, I would shop around and look into teaming up with the paper in town. What if you helped them deliver their paper or something and shared their racks?

FIre Hazard excuse is nonsense. Your newsstand shouldn't stick out from the wall more than a foot or so. Best bet, go over their head... politely.

We had a situation with a new building needing a newsstand and were told that we weren't allowed. We waited a little while, then asked the next higherup and voila.

As far as building them. Depending on the programs at your school, there may be a welding, engineering, shop class that might make one or two of them.

The other option, call Dad. My guess is someone's father would be able to knock one or two new ones together, and maybe repair the other ones to some degree.

What's your relationship like with the local town paper? If it's good, then maybe they have a suggestion, or some old news stands they could get rid of. If it isn't good, then make it good, damnit!
